You can tailor your child's Nintendo DSi (XL) system to suit their age using flexible Parental Controls. You can switch off as few or as many features as you desire to suit you and your child: for a young child, you might choose to prevent access to many functions, while individual features can be disabled without locking down the entire system for an older child.
The following functions can be restricted using Parental Controls. It is possible to temporarily enable functions for a single use by entering the parental PIN code when prompted.
Software Rating – Restricts the usage of Nintendo DSi-exclusive and Nintendo DSi-compatible content by age rating.
PictoChat – Restricts access to the PictoChat application. Parents who wish to monitor what messages their children can receive from other Nintendo DSi systems through DS Wireless Communications may find this useful.
DS Download Play – Restricts use of DS Download Play, preventing the download of Nintendo DS demos and local multiplayer in Nintendo DS software. This prevents Nintendo DS game data from being sent to the system.
Nintendo DSi Browser – Restricts access to the Nintendo DSi Browser and prevents any browsing of internet websites. Note that older versions of the Nintendo DSi do not have the Nintendo DSi Browser pre-installed. The program can be downloaded for free from the Nintendo DSi Shop.
Nintendo DSi Points – Restricts the use of Nintendo DSi points in the Nintendo DSi Shop. This does not block the purchase of points with a Credit Card, nor does it block the redemption of points by entering a Nintendo Points card.
Exchange of Photo Data – Restricts the ability to exchange photos with other Nintendo DSi systems over DS Wireless Communications.
Restrict Access to User-Created Content – Restricts access to certain user-created content. For example, games or applications might allow the exchange of user-created levels, artwork, etc.
