The Wii U GamePad is a new controller, just for Wii U. It features a large touch screen, opening up plenty of possibilities whether you choose to play using the television or not!
While using Wii U with a television, the Wii U GamePad is a second window into the game world, giving you new perspectives on the action or giving you easy access to information. You can also play supported games in off-TV play mode, using the Wii U GamePad alone without the television.
The Wii U GamePad offers several ways to play, from sticks and buttons to touch and motion controls. Different games take advantage of the control options in distinct ways; some titles rely wholly on buttons, while others use touch and tilt controls. There's also a built-in microphone and a camera.
The Wii U GamePad also supports near-field communication (NFC) in selected software titles. Using the technology built into the GamePad, data can be read from or written to certain items such as amiibo: a range of special Nintendo character figures. Click here to find out more about amiibo.
