    How to Purchase or Extend a Nintendo Switch Online Membership on Nintendo Switch

    In this article, you'll learn how to purchase a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

    Additional Information:

    • You can choose between various Nintendo Switch Online memberships:
      • Individual memberships provide the service to the Nintendo Account user that purchases the membership.
      • Family memberships provide the service to everyone in the purchaser's Nintendo Account family group (up to 8 people).
      • Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack individual and family memberships provide the service as described above, plus various additional benefits.
    • You can purchase multiple copies of the same membership to extend your overall membership time.
    • If you already belong to a family membership, you cannot purchase, redeem a download code for or change to an individual membership.
    • If you already have an existing membership, you can change from an individual membership to a family membership, or to a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, for a discounted price. The discount amount is based on the number of remaining days on your existing membership, up to the full cost of the new membership.       • Download codes for Nintendo Switch Online memberships do not follow this process. If you have an existing Nintendo Switch Online membership and want to redeem a download code for a different membership, you may receive an error message, or the different memberships may run concurrently. For example:
        • If you already have a Nintendo Switch Online family membership, it is not possible to redeem a download code for a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack individual membership.
        • If you already have a Nintendo Switch Online individual membership and you redeem a download code for a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack family membership, your individual and family memberships will not be combined but will run concurrently.

    Complete These Steps:

    1. Select "Nintendo eShop" on the HOME Menu to launch Nintendo eShop.
    2. Select the account you want to use.
    3. Select "Nintendo Switch Online" on the left side of the screen.
    4. Select "View/Change Membership" to see the current membership pricing and options.

    Are you using a prepaid Nintendo Switch Online download code?



    1. Scroll down to "Redeem Code" and select "Enter".
    2. Enter the 16-digit download code for the Nintendo Switch Online membership, then select "OK".
      • Make sure to review and accept any required terms that appear on the screen.
      • Any letters and symbols not used with prepaid codes (i.e. O, I, Z, commas, hyphens, etc.) will be disabled from the on-screen keyboard.
    3. Select "Confirm" to complete the transaction.
    4. Choose whether to activate automatic renewal.
    5. If you chose to activate automatic renewal, choose the payment method for automatic renewal you would like to set for the membership (credit card, PayPal or Nintendo eShop funds). You will not be charged at this time.
      • For Credit Card - Enter the credit card information when prompted.
      • For PayPal - You will need to link your PayPal account to your Nintendo Account, if you have not already done so.
      • Your membership will be set to renew automatically using your available Nintendo eShop funds when the validity period of your membership ends. If you have selected "Credit Card" or "PayPal", any additional funds will be charged to the payment method you chose. Automatic renewal is unavailable for Nintendo Accounts under the age of 18.
    6. Review the on-screen information about automatic renewal and check "Agree" if prompted to complete the process.

    1. Choose the membership you want to purchase, then select "Proceed to Purchase".
      • To purchase a family membership, you must be aged 18+.
        • Family memberships can still be purchased using available Nintendo eShop funds, credit cards or PayPal accounts.
        • If you currently have an individual membership on your Nintendo Account, you will be offered a discounted price for a family membership based on the number of remaining days on your individual membership.

    How do you want to pay for the Nintendo Switch Online membership?



    1. Select "Credit Card".
    2. Enter the credit card number, expiry date and security code, then select "Confirm".
      • If you are using saved credit card information, you will not need to re-enter the credit card information to complete the purchase.
      • Nintendo Account owners aged 18+ can click the "Save" box on the credit card entry screen to store credit card information.
    3. Select "Purchase" to complete the purchase.
    4. Choose whether to activate automatic renewal.
      • If you chose to activate automatic renewal, your membership will be set to renew automatically using your Nintendo eShop funds. Any additional balance will be charged to the payment method you used to place the order. The automatic renewal feature is unavailable for Nintendo Accounts under the age of 18.

    1. Select "PayPal".
    2. Link your PayPal account to your Nintendo Account, if you have not already done so.
    3. Select "Purchase" to complete the purchase.
    4. Choose whether to activate automatic renewal.
      • If you chose to activate automatic renewal, your membership will will be set to renew automatically using your Nintendo eShop funds. Any additional balance will be charged to the payment method you used to place the order. Automatic renewal is unavailable for Nintendo Accounts under the age of 18.

    1. Select "Funds Only".

    Are there enough funds to complete the purchase?



    1. Select "Purchase" to complete the purchase.
    2. Choose whether to activate automatic renewal.
    3. If you chose to activate automatic renewal, review the on-screen information about automatic renewal and check "Agree" if prompted to complete the purchase.
      • Your membership will be set to renew automatically using your Nintendo eShop funds. Automatic renewal is unavailable for Nintendo Accounts under the age of 18.

    How do you want to add funds to purchase the Nintendo Switch Online membership?



    1. Select "Credit Card".
    2. Enter the credit card number, expiry date and security code, then select "Confirm".

      • If the Nintendo eShop Card option doesn't appear, redeem the card prior to finalising your purchase.
    2. Enter the 16-character code, then select "OK".
