  • MONSTER HUNTER RISE Guide: Multiplayer

    26/03/2021

Go on a hunt wherever you want, whenever you want in MONSTER HUNTER RISE, out now on Nintendo Switch! Freely explore sweeping landscapes inspired by ancient Japan, slay ferocious wild monsters solo or co‑operatively with friends, and forge powerful weapons and armour from your spoils in this sprawling action RPG.

Every hunter knows that nothing beats the thrill of teaming up to topple titans – and on Nintendo Switch, it’s even easier to form a hunting party!

    The benefits of playing together

Whether your allies are nearby or faraway, up to four players can join forces locally* or online** to undertake quests, fell monsters together and enjoy a share of the spoils! Between hunts, regroup in Kamura Village to plan your next excursion, drop by the Smithy to upgrade your weapons and armour, or enjoy a hearty meal at the Tea Shop together.

Playing MONSTER HUNTER RISE together makes handling the monsters much easier and its especially beneficial if you’re new to the series and your friend is more experienced. Playing together allows you to learn from each other and share notes!

    How to play together

If you’re playing with others locally* or online**, simply head over and speak to Senri the Mailman in Kamura Village – he will give options to Find or Create lobbies for local or online play.

Local multiplayer: Here you can find a lobby that is being hosted by someone nearby, create and host a lobby for others to join or create a passcode protected lobby.

Online: Similar to local play, you can find lobbies to join but results can be refined by different criteria, including: the monster you’d like to hunt, the type of quest and language. You can also create and host lobbies with the option to add a passcode (recommended for full hunting parties to ensure no one loses their spot!).

Whilst you are in a multiplayer lobby, you can join or post Hub Quests. To do so, head to the Gathering Hub And speak with Minoto the Hub Maiden at the Quest Counter. From here you will be able to select a Hub Quest to post for other players in your lobby to join.

To join an existing Hub Quest, go to the Quest Board located next to Minoto where you can either; Join Hub Quests set up by players within your lobby or Respond to Join Requests where you can select a Hub Quest from the available list – doing so will whisk you off to an in-progress quest with players outside of your lobby. After completing Hub Quests, you will remain in the online lobby and be returned back to Kamura Village where you can prepare for your next hunt.

To ensure your hunt is successful, communication will be key! There are customisable Shoutouts, Stickers and Gestures available as well as Free Chat, all of which can be found by accessing the Chat Menu by pressing the ‘-’ button.

*Local multiplayer requires one console and one copy of the software per player.
