The Beatles: Rock Band

System: Wii Release date: 09/09/2009

All you need is love, The Beatles: Rock Band on Wii and maybe a few friends or family members with plastic instruments. The jobs of John, Paul, George and Ringo await you in this loving tribute to one of the most influential bands of all time. You can play on bass, drums, guitar or vocals, and for the very first time in the Rock Band series (for that truly authentic Beatles experience) sing fab 3-part harmonies!

Featuring a massive selection of Beatles songs, showcasing hits and fan favourites from their extensive back catalogue, this is the perfect game for Beatles fans and music game lovers alike. Whether flying solo or sharing the fun with friends you can be part of the British Invasion that took the world by storm and shaped music history. And if your mates aren't close by, you can alwyas play online competitively or co-operatively via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection!

Quickplay Mode lets you get stuck in straight away, just select your favourite tune to get cracking, or if you've got a ticket to ride, Story Mode will take you on a journey through the evolution of the Beatles' sound. Counting you in at 1963, your first gig will be as the headline act at the Cavern club in the Liverpool lads' home town - but it won't be cramped little venues for you forever! Achieving great performance scores unlocks the next era of the Beatles' career in the form of more songs and bigger venues; before you know it you'll be breaking hearts in Budokan or playing to a full house of screaming fans overcome with Beatlemania at Shea Stadium in the U.S. of A.

For the parts of their career where the Beatles were a studio band, computer generated visuals designed to compliment the music perfectly are the backdrop for your performances. If you loved the surreal imagery of Yellow Submarine and the psychedelic stylings of The Magical Mystery Tour then clapping your kaleidoscope eyes around these will be like watching a whole new Beatles video! The game also contains a plethora of original Beatles footage, photos and archived soundbytes to unlock with your brilliant performances.

The gameplay is similar to other Rock Band titles where the challenge comes from playing in time and in tune, so while you'll need rhythm for drums or guitar and singing skills on the mic, what you actually do to play each part is a cinch to pick up! Those with instruments are presented with coloured notes, which match with the coloured drum pads and the buttons on the guitar controllers, moving along a track towards a target line on screen. When each mark reaches the target, pressing the same coloured button on the neck of the guitar and strumming, or walloping the right pad on the drum-kit, means you hit the note.

For those who've stepped up to the microphones, the lyrics appear on screen along with a line to show the melody - belting it out accurately racks up the points! Consistency is everything in the world of music and hitting a long series of notes will earn you massive Beatlemania bonuses, which might come in handy if your Ringo or Paul stand-in is a bit of a butter fingers! If someone makes too many mistakes they may 'drop out' of the song, but they can get back to where they once belonged with a little help from their friends - any high scoring bandmates can activate Beatlemania to bring their chum back into the action.

So hoik your guitar strap up as high as it'll go, feel free to Twist and Shout as if Tomorrow Never Knows and Come Together, right now... on Wii.

  • Play 45 Beatles songs from throughout the Beatles' illustrious career, ranging from their early rock and roll roots through to the later, more intricately layered, studio recordings. If that’s not enough there are even more tracks available to download.
  • While most music game controllers licensed for Wii will work with the game, if you feel like really stepping into the shoes of the fab four, controllers modelled on their original instruments are available!
  • Plug in up to 3 microphones and take on the Beatles' familiar three part harmonies - perfecting your pitch in the game's practice mode.
  • Complete challenges and story gigs to unlock photos, archive footage and never before heard vintage sound bytes from the Abbey Road recording sessions!
