Multiplayer platforming mayhem!

Every match in Super Mario Bros. 35 has players taking on a random configuration of courses from the original Super Mario Bros., so be ready for anything. Players can propose and vote for the starting course in the pre-game lobby, meaning you could even start a match inside Bowser’s Castle in World 8-4.

Time attack

You’re not just competing against 34 other players in Super Mario Bros. 35 – you’re also racing against the clock!

Each player starts with only 35 in-game seconds on the timer, so top it up by stomping on Goombas, Koopa Troopas and whatever baddies pop up on screen.

It’s a knockout

Not only does clearing out Cheep Cheeps or bouncing off Buzzy Beetles reward you with more time, it sends them to pester other players and make their run even more chaotic!

Switch between four different strategies like targeting those with the most knockouts or people with not much time left on the clock to overwhelm other players, or to defend yourself from incoming enemies.

If your onslaught of baddies manages to KO someone, you’ll receive all of their remaining time, as well as any Coins they’ve collected during the match.

Coin collector

Don’t get tunnel vision while running through each course, as collecting Coins is key for staying in the game. Spend them mid-match to receive a random power-up like a Fire Flower or a Super Star from the Item Roulette.

Something special

As well as 35-Player Battle, put your platforming prowess to the test in Special Battle. In these limited-time events, contend with unique battle conditions, like every course being a Castle, that will really turn up the heat.

If you’re having trouble finding your feet, here are some handy tips that’ll help keep you in the game!

Practice, practice, practice

If a specific course is always giving you trouble, head into Course Practice and train yourself up on courses you unlocked via 35-Player Battle. You never know which courses may appear, so it helps to always be prepared!

Maximise your time

Taking out enemies in specific ways will grant you bonus time. Stomping on multiple Goombas in a row will net you more time than taking them all out with a Fire Flower, so don’t always go for the easy option.

Send in reinforcements

You don’t just get extra time for taking out baddies – defeated enemies are sent to invade another player’s game. Enemies sent by other players are marked in grey, so be on the lookout for these unwelcome guests when running through each course.

Items are your friend

Coins carry over between matches, so buy items in the pre-game lobby to give you an extra edge at the start of the next match. Don’t be afraid to spend your hard-earned dosh and sprint straight into World 1-1 with a Super Star!

Use your strategies

It’s easy to focus solely on your path forward, but remember that there are 34 other players trying to win! If you see someone that’s on the verge of defeat, swap strategies and pile on the pressure to take them out. Similarly, remember to switch it up and defend yourself from attacks, should you find yourself in danger of an early exit.

Keep an eye on your radar

Struggling to keep track of oncoming threats? The radar at the bottom of the screen will alert you to any enemies that have been sent by other players – meaning you can prepare for how you’ll deal with the army of Koopa Troopas heading your way.

Spectate once you get knocked out

While it’s tempting to move straight onto the next match when you get knocked out, stick around and watch how other players are dealing with certain courses and threats. It may just give you a bright idea that may see you coming out on top next game!
