    How do I register friends?

All functions related to friends are handled through the friend list. You can access this in the HOME Menu of your Nintendo 3DS system by tapping on the friend list icon at the top of the Touch Screen. When you open it for the first time, you’ll be asked to create a friend card by following the on-screen prompts.

Before you can start using the friend list, you'll need to have created your own personal Mii using Mii Maker. You'll also need to have set up an Internet Connection, so you can see when friends go online. Click here to read how to connect your Nintendo 3DS system to the internet.

There are two ways to register friends: locally and via the Internet. Tap on Register Friend at the top of your friend list, and choose either option. There are two ways to register friends: locally and via the Internet. Tap on Register Friend at the top of your friend list, and choose either option.

    • Local
Choose this option if the Nintendo 3DS system of the person you want to register as a friend is in the same location as you. Please select Local on both systems, and confirm who you wish to register as a friend by selecting their friend card.

    • Internet
Choose this option if the Nintendo 3DS system of the person you wish to register as a friend is not in the same location. You will need each other's friend code, and both Nintendo 3DS systems need to be connected to the Internet. You can find your friend code on your own friend card on the top screen. If you are not yet registered on your friend's system, your friend will be provisionally entered on yours. Once you are registered on your friend's system, both of you will become fully registered friends. Only then will that person’s name and Mii character be displayed in your friend list.

Please note: The friend list is a system intended for use by you and people you know. Posting your friend code on online forums or sharing it with people you do not know can result in you receiving unwanted data or status messages containing language that you may find offensive. Do not share your friend code with people you do not know.
