  • Update from the Squid Research Lab – Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion, European Championship, Rank X and more!

    16/03/2018

Did you catch the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, Inklings? There was loads of new information about Splatoon 2 for Nintendo Switch, including Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion – a brand new single-player mode coming as paid downloadable content this summer! Not to mention more stages and gear, a huge European tournament and…Rank X? Whew!

    Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

Our researchers recently unearthed something called Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion. In this hefty single-player mode, you’ll play as Agent 8 – a brand new character who looks like an Octoling – and navigate 80 mysterious underground test facilities in a desperate battle to reach the surface of Inkopolis!

Escape from these twisted depths, and you’ll be able to join multiplayer matches as an Octoling. (Wait, does this mean we need an Octopus Research Lab now…?)

You’ll be able to play this new mode in summer – stay tuned for more details! Oh, by the way, if you purchase Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion* in Nintendo eShop on your console or via this website** now, you'll immediately receive Octo-themed in-game gear to use in battle.

    Splatoon European Championship

Europe’s best Splatoon 2 teams will be splatting it out for ultimate glory at the Splatoon European Championship at Polymanga in Switzerland on March 31st! We’ll be livestreaming the semi-finals and grand finale, as well as a special Off the Hook concert on the official Nintendo UK YouTube channel.

Be sure to follow @NintendoUKVS on Twitter for all the latest information in the run-up to the big day!

    Ver. 3.0 ink-coming!

This major update is coming to Splatoon 2 in April, and adds all the fresh stuff below!

Can you make it to Rank X?

Seasoned splatters will soon be able to show their superiority with Rank X – a hardcore new rank above S+! Only the top 1% of players will qualify for this prestigious position.

Those who do will battle it out for X Power, rather than the usual Rank Meter. Once a month, for each of the four different Ranked Battle modes, 500 players with the highest X Power will be announced on SplatNet 2. Could you be one of them?

More stages, more gear, more fun!

Returning favourites Piranha Pit and Camp Triggerfish will be making a splash in Splatoon 2 soon, as well as an all-new stage – Wahoo World. They say this place is the dating spot of choice for all the hippest and happeningest Inklings.

Over 100 pieces of gear will be added too, meaning fresh new looks just in time for spring! FYI – going forward, new stages and weapons will be added in a big batch on a monthly basis.

Did you get all that? The world of Splatoon 2 continues to evolve, so don’t miss out! You can join the Facebook Splatoon community to keep up to date with all the latest, or follow us on Twitter @NintendoUKVS.

Splatoon 2 is available in stores and as a downloadable version from Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch now.

*Please note: you will be directly charged for the full purchase price when you purchase the Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion, and you cannot play before the launch date in summer 2018.
