30th June, 2016 – July is set to be a banner month for fans of Splatoon for Wii U with multiple events celebrating Nintendo’s unique shooter, including the final Splatfest, a live concert using special projection techniques at Japan Expo in Paris, and the launch of five new amiibo including the Squid Sisters themselves, Callie and Marie.

Splatfests are regular events where players vote on important debates, like whether they prefer cats or dogs, or whether pineapple on pizza is delicious or disgusting. Once players pick a side, they then form a team with like-minded players and battle the opposing side for supremacy. For the final face-off, Splatoon devotees have to make the ultimate decision and pick their favourite Squid Sister – Callie or Marie – then compete against other players from Europe and North America. The battle runs from 10:00 (UK time) on Friday 22nd July until 10:00 (UK time) on Sunday 24th July, after which the global results will be tallied and the ultimate winner crowned soon after. It’s time to put it all on the line for Callie or Marie!

As players look back on previous Splatfests, the Miiverse community for Art Academy is now inviting fans to submit drawings on the theme “Splatfest memories”, using software from the Art Academy series. The deadline is Wednesday 13th July, and outstanding pieces will be highlighted on the Splatoon Facebook page at a later date.

Before this decisive Splatfest, Callie and Marie will also visit Europe for the very first time to perform live in concert at Japan Expo in Paris on Friday 8th July. Appearing via special projection and performing alongside a live band, Callie and Marie will take to the Karasu stage at 12:45 (UK time). Fans across Europe will be able to experience the concert themselves a few hours after it ends by checking out the video on Nintendo's YouTube channel.

Friday 8th July is certainly a lucky day for Splatoon aficionados, with new amiibo also launching on that day. Callie and Marie will get their very own amiibo figures, available individually or in a special double pack, alongside new colours for the Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid amiibo figures in limited quantities. Tapping the Callie or Marie amiibo to the Wii U GamePad grants the player a personal concert in the Inkopolis Plaza, with a range of songs to choose from, including one exclusive solo song per amiibo.

To draw this splat-tastic month to a close, karaoke fans will be able to sing their squiddy hearts out from 28th July, as three Squid Sisters songs – “City of Colour”, “Ink Me Up” and “Calamari Inkantation” – will be added to Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND.

Anyone yet to jump into the unique world of Splatoon can take advantage of an upcoming 25% discount on the software price in Nintendo eShop, down from £34.99 to £25.99 between 14:00 (UK time) on 7th July and 23:59 (UK time) on 21st July. To help new players make a splash in their first Turf War matches, Nintendo has released a series of Splatoon – Top Tips! videos covering the basic skills players need to master, straight from the game’s co-director, Tsubasa Sakaguchi.

The final Splatfest, the first ever Squid Sisters concert outside Japan, new Callie and Marie amiibo and much more make July a bumper month for Splatoon, the unique shooter exclusively available on Wii U.
