Without a high speed connection

In order to use the online features of your Wii console, a high-speed Internet connection is required. If you are interested in getting a high-speed connection, we recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for more information.

Unsure if you have a high-speed connection?

If you don't have a high speed connection, but do have access to the Internet, you most likely have a 'dial-up' connection. With 'dial-up', the following is usually the case:

• You will likely hear a dial tone followed by radio noise as the connection is made.
• A phone line will either be connected to the PC or to an external modem.
• You may not be able to use the phone when you are connected online.

Unfortunately, if you still don't know if you have a high speed connection, you'll need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to find out. Then come back and we'll help you from there.

Search for an Access Point

On the Wii console's main menu, click on the 'Wii button' in the lower left corner.

Wireless Connection

The easiest way to connect your console online with your wireless router is through the 'Search for an Access Point' function of the Wii console. We highly recommend this method.

Continue using the 'Search for an Access Point' function (recommended)

Continue using the 'Manual Setup' feature (for more complex set-ups)

Wired Connection

If you have a wired router, there are two ways you can connect your Wii console to the Internet:


Wii LAN Adapter

With a wired router, you can connect to your existing wired connection with the Wii LAN Adapter. For more information on connecting this device, click here.

Note: Non-Nintendo manufactured USB LAN adapters will not work with the Wii console system.


Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector

If connecting to your wired router is not an option for you, an alternate method is using the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. For more information on connecting this device, click here.

Nintedo Wi-Fi USB Connector

If you do not have a compatible wireless router or other home networking equipment, you can connect the Wii console to the Internet using the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (sold separately), which enables the Wii console to share a PC's Internet connection (This is the same connector that Nintendo DS owners have used to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection).

The Connector plugs into a USB port on the PC, which is connected to the Internet, and creates a wireless connection between the PC and the Wii console.

In order to use the USB connector, you will need:

• PC (The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector is not Macintosh compatible)
• Windows XP or Windows Vista
• A high-speed Internet connection (such as DSL or cable)

The Wii console must be able to access your high-speed (broadband) connection. This can be accomplished in one of three ways:

A wireless router (recommended)

Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector

Originally released for the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector inserts into a USB port on a PC (Windows XP or Windows Vista required) and creates a wireless Access Point for your Nintendo DS or Wii. A wired router using the Wii LAN Adapter

If you have a wired router, the Wii LAN Adapter can be used to enable an ethernet connection from your wired router to the USB ports on the Wii console. You can find the manual for the Wii LAN Adapter by following this link.

If you're not sure if you have a wired or wireless router, the best source to determine this is your router manual. This should tell you if it is wireless or not. You could also check the website of the manufacturer of the router. Or, check to see if there is an antennae coming off the router.
