  You can try a "Manual Setup" with the Wii console (how), using your network's DNS information. To access the DNS settings on your PC, click "Start" and then "Run".
  In the window that appears, type "CMD" then click "OK". This will open a new window. Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" and press "Enter" to display a list of internet settings, including the "DNS" settings. Input these into the "Manual Setup" of the Wii console's internet connection.

The Wii console was unable to connect to Nintendo's servers to receive an update.

Our experience shows that this issue is often caused by interference within your home network. Try the following troubleshooting steps:

• Try adjusting the transmission rate of your router. Lowering the rate to "1-2 mbp" from 4 or higher can ensure a more stable connection. Turning off any "Speed Booster" options may also help; these are often called Nitro, Turbo Boost, etc.
• Check your router's broadcast settings to find out if it is set to "G", "B", or "Mixed." Mixed typically works best, but try all three to see if it improves the network connection to the Wii console.
• Wireless routers typically have a range of channels from 1 to 11. Try changing your wireless router's channel to 1, 6, or 11, and try the connection again. (These three channels do not "overlap" with any of the other channels)
• Make sure that any other interfering devices, such as microwaves and cordless phones, are turned off. Wirless keyboards and mice may also cause interference.

2. Make sure that your network’s name (SSID) matches exactly to what you have entered in the Wii console's settings.

   1. Log in to your router using the default IP (consult the router manual for assistance).
   2. Look for the section for SSID (typically in the “wireless settings” area).
   3. After you find the network name (SSID), verify in the Internet Settings of your Wii console that the SSID is appearing exactly as listed in your router. This includes making sure capitalisation, spaces, or special characters match exactly.

The Wii console is not able to connect to the access point.

  4. The WEP Key must be a Hexadecimal (0-9, A-F, no other special characters or letters).

Our experience has shown that this error message is typically caused by a basic setting in your router, such as transmission rate. Please carefully read the instructions below:

• Check Nintendo’s router info to see if your router is compatible with the Wii.

  Log into the router, and check likely areas for the basic rate and transmission rate. (e.g., "Wireless Settings," "Advanced Wireless Settings," "Connection Rates") Change the basic rate to "1-2." Change the transmission rate to "2." (Make the change even if only one of those options is available). Test the connection.

• Another device may be sharing the same I.P. address of the Wii console. Try manually assigning an IP address to your Wii console.
  1. The first thing you'll need to do is find out what IP address range you should be using. To do this:
     
     1. Click the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your computer.
     2. Click "Run."
     3. Type "cmd" into the box and press Enter.
