With Mario returning to his 2D platform roots in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata spoke to Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto for the latest interview in the Iwata Asks series.

The pair look back at the early days of Mario, revealing some new insights in the creation of the iconic plumber. Shigeru Miyamoto expands on the design choices made in the early days of video gaming, including how the original Super Mario Bros. prevented players from dodging their first Super Mushroom.
