Based on the popular books and movie of the same name, The Spiderwick Chronicles on Nintendo DS invites you to play as siblings Jared, Mallory and Simon Grace as they explore the grounds of the incredible Spiderwick Estate and try to protect the research of their great uncle Arthur.

With weird and wonderful creatures to discover, and swarms of goblins and otherworldly enemies to battle against, you’ll soon find yourself transported to a spellbound fantasy world where nothing is quite as it seems.

The main action in The Spiderwick Chronicles can be controlled on the Touch Screen, as you guide your characters through their surroundings by dragging the stylus in the direction you want them to walk and tap an area or item for them to investigate. Finding and using items scattered around the Spiderwick universe is essential as you try to reach new areas and uncover more about the mysterious Spiderwick Estate. While you will be given an overhead view of proceedings during your exploration, the action will be displayed from the side when you do run into an enemy and engage in battle.

Whatever kind of curious foe you end up locked in combat with, you will have to overcome them in turn-based battles that call on you to use the strengths of each of the Grace children at the right moment. You will also be given the chance to deal more damage or soften the blows of your enemy by successfully completing a short mini-game on the Touch Screen before each attack. If you can tap your stylus in time, draw the right shape or perform whatever other action you are prompted to, the process of winning will be made at least a little easier!

You can also boost your battling power by finding various sprites spread throughout the estate. Certain sprites will allow you to increase the health, strength and magic abilities of the Grace siblings as you see fit, while others can be used in battle or as you explore the world around you.
