Some of the most athletic video game characters of all time step out of their traditional worlds and stages and step onto the world’s biggest stage: the Olympic Games!

In fact, the Olympics is the only venue big enough to house the first meeting of video game titans Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, and with the wireless capabilities of the DS, your friends can join you in this historic event!

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games features 16 Olympic events including Track and Field, Archery, Skeet Shooting, Cycling Pursuit and 10m Platform Diving, the last two being exclusive to the DS version of the game. In addition to these traditional events, the game features eight Dream events – five of which are exclusive to DS. Each Dream event takes a sport you know and adds obstacles, power-ups and familiar opponents from the worlds of Mario and Sonic to up the challenge.

You’ll use the Touch Screen and stylus for many of the events, jumping, swimming, running and flipping your way through competitions to win the gold. In several track events, for example, you’ll make quick strokes to build speed and then deliver one key stroke to activate jumps or throw things.

Sonic, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Tails and 12 more characters from the Mario and Sonic franchises are ready to take their shot at a place on the podium. Each character has his or her special talents and athletic capabilities to the competitions. It should come as no surprise that Sonic specialises in speed and Mario is pretty good at jumping. As you play, you’ll discover which characters excel in certain events. These characters show their strengths in three gameplay modes, including a Mission Mode that requires you to complete special scenarios with specific characters.

With the wireless capabilities of Nintendo DS, you can challenge three other players to the game’s events through either DS Download Play or Multi-Card multiplayer match-ups. With DS Download Play, you use just one Game Card to compete against others in a single event, but when each player has his or her own copy of the game, everyone can compete in a full circuit of events. Plus, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, letting you upload your best results to the worldwide ranking and see how you stack up against the best in the world. Are you gold metal material? Get the game and find out!

  • Try your hand at fun Dream events, including Dream Canoe, Dream Boxing, Dream Basketball and Dream Long Jump
  • Play each individual event or string them together for a mega-competition. Single Match Mode lets players try out each event individually, and they can compete for the highest overall score in Circuit Mode. Mission Mode contains challenges created specifically for each character.
  • Players can join in the fun simultaneously via wireless connection on the Nintendo DS, using either DS Download Play or Multi-Card gameplay options. The game also features an online leaderboard option via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
